Website Redesign Checklist for a Confident Business Relaunch

A redesign is an opportunity to solve the problems the current site has accumulated, not only to change its visual style. A clear audit and scope make that distinction visible before design work begins.

01

Understand what is not working

Review page performance, mobile behavior, search visibility, content quality and conversion paths. Speak to the team members who update the site and the customers who use it. Patterns in those conversations often reveal more than a visual preference does. Analyzing heatmaps and user session recordings can highlight points of friction that internal teams might be blind to. Identifying where users rage-click or abandon forms provides actionable data for structural improvements.

02

Keep what already has value

Strong pages, useful search rankings, established URLs and trusted content should not disappear by accident. Create an inventory early, then make deliberate choices about what to retain, improve, consolidate or retire. A comprehensive content audit ensures that high-performing SEO assets are protected. Haphazardly deleting older blog posts or changing URL structures without proper redirection can wipe out years of organic search traffic.

03

Plan launch as a transition

Redirects, analytics, metadata, forms, consent tools and content ownership should all be part of the launch plan. Testing the critical journeys before launch protects the value of the existing website while the new experience begins to perform. A well-planned 301 redirect strategy is non-negotiable. Furthermore, ensure that all tracking scripts and conversion goals in Google Analytics are ported over accurately so you can measure the new design's performance against historical baselines.
